マテリアルサイエンス（物質科学）は生命現象、物質創成から宇宙科学まで、地球社会に関わる全ての現象と実体を理解し、役立てるための学術であり、同時に人類の活動に最も広く、密接に関わり、地球社会の持続的発展に必要なイノベーション創出にも直結する学問分野です。京都大学は化学、材料科学、生命科学を含む、物質科学の広い分野において世界を牽引する成果を挙げてきました。本学がこの分野のさらなる発展を引き続き牽引していくためには、教員と学生が集中して研究に取り組むことができる環境の一層の整備が必要です。京都大学では、このような施策の一つとして、文部科学省が令和３年度から開始する「科学技術イノベーション創出に向けた大学フェローシップ創設事業」の補助を受け、「マテリアルイノベーションを創出する未来人材育成フェローシップ（FS-MAT）」を立ち上げ、物質科学研究に取り組む博士後期課程の大学院学生に対する経済的支援を進めます。大学院生諸君には、京都大学らしい深い学術探求を進めることに加えて、学術分野を超えた、あるいはイノベーション創出につなげるための広い視野を養ってもらうことを期待しています。本事業においては、経済的支援に加え、研究力を高め、そのような広い視野を涵養するための機会を提供することにしています。本フェローシップ事業が、京都大学の物質科学のさらなる飛躍と、諸君が将来の日本、世界の物質科学研究とイノベーション創出を担うリーダーとして成長する一助となることを期待します。

Materials science is a discipline that aims to understand and make use of the phenomena and systems that make up our modern societies, from living systems and the creation of materials, to space science. It is closely related to human activities and to the creation of innovations necessary for the sustainable development of our global society. Kyoto University has achieved world-leading results in the broad field of materials science, including physics, chemistry, life sciences, and engineering. For Kyoto University to continue to lead the development of this field, it is necessary to further improve the environment in which faculty and students carry out their research. As one such measure, Kyoto University has established the Fellowship for Future Materials Innovation (FS-MAT) with support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) under its "University Fellowship Program for the Creation of Innovation in Science and Technology" starting in 2021. The fellowship will provide financial support for graduate students who are enrolled in the doctoral course and are engaged in materials science research. In addition to pursuing in-depth academic pursuits typical of Kyoto University, we expect graduate students to develop a broad perspective that transcends academic disciplines, and leads to the creation of innovations in materials science. In addition to financial support, the fellowships will provide students with the opportunities to enhance their research skills and develop such a broad perspective. We hope that this fellowship program will help Kyoto University to make further progress in materials science and to develop you as a future leader in materials science research and innovation in Japan and around the world.

• 本フェローシップ応募の前年に，あらかじめ学振特別研究員（DC1）に応募することを強く推奨します．

• 本フェローシップに採用後に，別途学振特別研究員（DC2, PD, RPD）に応募することは全く問題ありません．学振に採用された場合は，すぐに募集要項にある本フェローシップの連絡先に申し出て，受給が重ならないようにフェローシップの辞退届を提出してください．

• 社会保険・年金について：本フェローシップで支給される生活費は税法上雑所得として扱われます．現在，扶養義務者（親等）の扶養親族となっている場合は，扶養義務者の勤務先で手続きが必要となることがあります．また，各自で国民健康保険・国民年金保険等に加入する必要があります．手続等については，居住する市区町村に問い合わせてください．
