History

The Kenmore-Grand Island Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team is a founding member of the WNY Girls Federation Hockey League representing Section VI of the NYSPHSAA. The Kenmore-Tonawanda UFSD fielded a combined team, bringing together players from both Kenmore East and Kenmore West as well as the district middle schools.

The DevilDogs established something of a dynasty in WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey early on with five straight Section VI titles, as well as the area’s first three appearances in the State Championship tournaments in Canton (2013), Clayton (2014), Buffalo (2015), and Albany (2016). The team reached the semi-finals twice and the State Championship game twice in 2015 and 2016. The 2013-2014 campaign also netted the program’s first WNYGVIHF League and Federation Titles.

For the 2015-2016 campaign, the Kenmore team welcomed Grand Island into the fold. The first season together was a success. The 2016-2017 campaign fell just short, losing to eventual state runner-up Frontier/Orchard Park/Lake Shore in the Section VI Championship.

The team added another Section Title before Lockport joined the fold in 2022, the season that would be inaugural Head Coach Jeff Orlowski's last with the team. The team sent him off with another Section VI Championship and a NYSPHSAA Final Four appearance.

Long-time Assistant Coach Matthew Miller assumed the helm and helped steer the team to its 8th Section VI Championship, first ever Far West Regional Championship, and another appearance in the NYSPHSAA Finals for the 2023-2024 season. The team followed that up with its third Federation Championship in 2024-2025.

All-Time Team Record: 147 regulation wins, 119 regulation losses, 18 ties, 10 OT wins, and 6 OT losses.
