This week we are talking about the saxophone in the woodwind family of instruments and Ragtime music. Watch the first two videos below about the woodwind family and the saxophone.

This is an example of Ragtime music by Scott Joplin. The bouncy rhythm was called “Ragged time” at first because it sounded as ragged as a torn piece of cloth. Then it got shortened to ragtime.

This song is called "The Entertainer."

This is another example of Ragtime music played on the saxophone.

It's called "The Maple Leaf Rag."

Feel free to play your homemade drums or anything you have around your homes in "The Fig Leaf Rag." These girls are using a drum, triangle, and wood block. Maybe you can find something similar!

Have Fun!

Week of 11/30/20

This week we are talking about vocal and rhythmic echoes.

The piano is both a string and a percussion instrument. You can see the strings that the Piano Guys are plucking making it a stringed instrument. And there are little hammers that strike the strings when you hit a piano key making it a percussion instrument. Pretty Cool!

We are also going to look at the String family of instruments.

We are continuing with single eighth notes. So, play along with the theme from Tetris.

This example has quarter note rests in it. It shows the rhythm and you can use a bucket, pail, pot, pan, or anything available.

We are also going to talk about the string family of instruments.
