Legends

Legends

Legends are stories with a hero that were told prior to written history. It is believed that at least part of the information is factual, however the hero's identity is not historically verified (it may actually be several people combined into a single person). These stories are typically thousands of years old (approximate dates of some of well-known legends include: Robin Hood 1377, King Arthur 1200s, Mulan 420).

Mythology

Common/popular types of this kind of mythology include: Egyptian (3100-2686 BC), Greek (3000-1100 BC), Roman (800-700 BC), Norse (790-1100 CE), and Hawaiian (000 BC). Cryptids (unexplained and unproven creatures, such as the Lochness Monster, and Sasquatch) also fall under the category of mythology because they are things that occur in nature. Cryptids are in the 000 section (General Information) in a library.
