Learning Support Services
“Nurturing All Student Voices”
Aloha and welcome to Learning Support (LS). The intended outcomes for this service is to prepare and sustain students for middle and high school, college and career-readiness. The strategies and practices learned in class are meant to promote engagement in learning and enable an equal opportunity to succeed in school to those students needing extra help. This includes lessons in goal setting, managing time and workload, prioritizing, organizing, setting routines, and self-reflection. There are three levels of support within this service:
Level 3
Goals:
· Support implementation of accommodation plans.
· Support of students on Academic Probation.
· Regularly check-in and communication with students and parents.
· Provide ongoing follow through support of learning strategies during core classes.
· Collaborate with core teachers and counselors to ensure ongoing informed decision-making of learner needs.
Who: LS Teacher – Kumu Victor
Level 2
Goals:
· Provide higher level of individualized academic assistance including remediation when necessary:
o Foundational academic strategies
o Socio-emotional advocacy support
o Personalized learning strategies
· Teach and practice skills-based lessons.
· Increase communication and promote/guardian involvement.
· One-to-one check-ins and ongoing follow through support of learning strategies during core classes.
· Collaborate with core teachers and counselors to ensure ongoing informed decision-making of learner needs.
Who: LS Student Supervisor– Kumu Kahea; LS Teacher – Kumu Victor
Level 1
Goal:
· Determine students of concern for Learning Support Services through assessment process:
1. Teachers identify students of concern and collect and/or document evidence.
2. Evidence collected reviewed for recommendations of next steps by Learning Support Advisory (LSA).
Who: Teachers; LSA – Curriculum and Teaming Coordinator, Counselors, LS staff)
