Vernier Sensors to borrow
Vernier Sensors to borrow
The equipment below can be checked out from KRESA's Regional Educational Media Center. Go to KRESA REMC to submit your request. We thank Pfizer, Inc. and the Kalamazoo Section of the American Chemical Society for the purchase of these tools.
IMPORTANT: Vernier Graphical Analysis software is required to operate these devices. The basic version is free and compatible with most tablets and laptops, including Chromebooks. Check with your IT department, if necessary, for authorization to use.
KACS has purchased the following lab manuals for use with these sensors. Please request access to the instructor and student files by email.
Chemistry with Vernier (4th Ed., 2019): table of contents and appendices
Forensic Chemistry Experiments (1st Ed., 2023): table of contents and appendices
Go Direct® Temperature Probe (set of eight) - User Manual
Range: –40 to 125°C. Resolution 0.01°C, accuracy 0.25°C. Response time (time for 90% of reading): 20 seconds (in water, with stirring)
Go Direct® Colorimeter (set of four) - User Manual
Absorbance or transmittance at four wavelengths (430 nm, 470 nm, 565 nm, 635 nm). Useful range: 0.05 to 1.0 (absorbance); 90% to 10% transmittance (%T). Requires 1 cm cuvettes.
Go Direct® Conductivity Probe (set of four) - User Manual
Measures electrical conductivity (0 to 20,000 μS/cm) with a built-in temperature sensor for automatic temperature compensation (5 to 35°C). Temperature compensation can be turned off to perform conductivity studies as a function of temperature.
Go Direct® Gas Pressure Sensor (set of four) - User Manual
Pressure range: 0 to 400 kPa (±0.03 kPa) with ±3 kPA accuracy. Display results in kPa, mm Hg, in Hg, mbar, psi, atm. Includes a syringe, tubing, and stoppers.
Go Direct® pH Sensor (set of eight) - User Manual
pH range: 0–14 (±0.2). Glass bulb, sealed, gel-filled, epoxy body, Ag/AgCl reference. Storage solution: pH-4/KCl solution (10 g KCl in 100 mL buffer pH-4 solution).
IMPORTANT: The pH sensors are partially shielded glass bulb electrodes. Please treat the glass tips gently. The sensors will arrive immersed in bottles filled with storage solution and with a separate bottle of fresh storage solution. Rinse the electrodes thoroughly with deionized water before and after use. Store the sensors in their bottles with storage solution when not in use. Replace the storage solution in the storage bottles with fresh storage solution before returning the sensors. Please notify REMC when the storage solution runs low. Vernier provides instructions for making or purchasing storage solution, if necessary.
Kits will contain a Go Direct® Charging Station that can charge up to eight probes and eight sensors simultaneously.
