What is KoMets vs. Cancer?
KoMets vs. Cancer is a student-led initiative dedicated to supporting members of the Kasson-Mantorville community who are undergoing cancer treatment. This effort is hosted by the Kasson-Mantorville Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Dance teams, Gymnastics and FCCLA, and takes place annually during January and February.
The initiative includes a variety of fundraising events, such as silent auctions held during home sporting events, 3 on 3 Basketball competition and other student organized events. These auctions feature items donated by local community members, parents, and students. In addition to the auctions, various activities and events are held throughout the schools to further raise awareness and funds. The entire effort reflects the Kasson-Mantorville community’s commitment to rallying around and supporting those in need.
Accessing Funds
Individuals in the Kasson-Mantorville community who are currently undergoing cancer treatment are eligible to apply for a $2,000 grant. This grant is intended to help offset costs related to medical expenses, transportation, and loss of income due to time away from work. The goal is to provide meaningful financial relief during a difficult time.
Student-Led Review Process
Applications are reviewed by student representatives from the participating groups in KoMets vs. Cancer. These students are guided and supported by a group of adult advisors, including a coach, a parent volunteer, a Care & Share representative, and the FCCLA advisor. This collaborative process empowers students to take an active role in giving back to their community while ensuring thoughtful and confidential consideration of each application.
KoMets vs. Cancer is more than a fundraiser—it's a powerful example of student leadership, compassion, and the strength of the Kasson-Mantorville community.
Thank you to KM Care & Share for partnering with KoMets vs. Cancer to make these funds available to our community members.
