Yizkor
Yom Kippur Day, Thursday, October 2, 1:00pm
If you ever thought about whether to stay or leave before Yizkor, I wanted you to read this.
It shows all of us the importance of being there for others.
I urge you to attend the Yizkor service this year, especially if you have never lost a loved one, to honor those who have.
Blessings to all for a good year, a year of peace - health - a wholeness.
-Reb Tova
“It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadn’t heard from Eeyore for several days, so they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the Hundred Acre Wood to Eeyore’s stick house. Inside the house was Eeyore.
‘Hello Eeyore,’ said Pooh.
‘Hello Pooh. Hello Piglet,’ said Eeyore, in a Glum Sounding Voice.
‘We just thought we’d check in on you,’ said Piglet, ‘because we hadn’t heard from you, and so we wanted to know if you were okay.’
“Eeyore was silent for a moment. ‘Am I okay?’ he asked, eventually. ‘Well, I don’t know, to be honest. Are any of us really okay? That’s what I ask myself. All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. Which is why I haven’t bothered you. Because you wouldn’t want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All, would you now.’
“Pooh looked at Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.
Eeyore looked at them in surprise. ‘What are you doing?’
‘We’re sitting here with you,’ said Pooh, ‘because we are your friends. And true friends don’t care if someone is feeling Sad, or Alone, or Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. True friends are there for you anyway. And so here we are.’
‘Oh,’ said Eeyore. ‘Oh.’
“And the three of them sat there in silence, and while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all; somehow, almost imperceptibly, Eeyore started to feel a very tiny little bit better.
“Because Pooh and Piglet were There.”

"My Journey" Series
Kol HaLev has launched a “My Journey” series where members are invited to tell their own personal story for the purpose of getting to
know each other better and building community. Witnessing people authentically share their stories can be fascinating, inspiring and often
lead to heart to heart connections. Some examples of what might be shared could be about family, career, something a person has overcome,
an inspiring aspect about a person's journey, or anything else that has led to learning a life lesson. One member will tell their story each week
after a potluck lunch after services. Here are the dates of the upcoming presentations. We welcome you to participate! Contact Laurie
at rosenberglaurie56@gmail.com or 301-467-5057 if you are interested.

A Community Vote - Jewish People Support Food Aid For Gaza
Rick Reiches presented a statement to the board suggesting that we take a vote as
a community to see if KHL would be in support of it.
It is a generally accepted fact that there is a severe famine in Gaza, and that it is the result of actions by the
IDF-Israeli Defense Force. The people at the website FoodAidForGaza.com have formulated a statement.
"Jewish people support food aid for people in Gaza and an immediate end to the Israeli government's food aid blockade."
We want to know if Kol HaLev as a congregation supports this statement. You will be receiving an email shortly asking
for an up or down vote on this statement. The decision will be based on a majority of votes.

MI SHEBEIRACH REVAMP!!!
In the Mi Shebeirach prayer for healing, we ask for Refuah Shlema (the renewal of body and the renewal of spirit) for ourselves and for our
loved ones. We speak each name aloud during this part of our Shabbat service, and then together we sing this prayer. This Shabbat we will
begin a new system which we hope will be more efficient and allow us to give more personal attention and support to those in our KHL community who are in need of healing. All names to be included on the Mi Shebeirach list need to be submitted to the KHL office no later than Wednesday,
to be included in that weekend's Shabbat services. Each name submitted will continue to be included on the Mi Shebeirach list for one month.
If anyone needs to remain on the list longer than a month, their name can be resubmitted to the KHL Office. When submitting your (or your
loved one's) name, please include the email address if you or they would like to be contacted by our KHL Chesed group to receive additional support. If you have any questions, please contact Shira.
