Mr. Frederick has been principal at G.R. Hampton for six years. Prior to the role of principal, he was a 9-12th grade teacher at Knox Appalachian and a math, reading, and science teacher at Knox County Middle.
There are lots of memories for elementary principals. For Mr. Frederick, it was seeing the kids play on the new playground for the first time after they worked hard for it and fundraised the prior year.
Mr. Frederick has learned a lot about leadership and the education profession. His advice to teachers that would like to advance and explore new opportunities to help students would be to remember that you're dealing with people and listen.
For the career itself, Mr. Frederick encourages students to consider education as their future career. "It is the most rewarding career ever," he says.
Being a principal can be hard work at times. His most enjoyable part? Party days with the little ones!
Many teachers and leaders have been inspired and motivated by those they had while in school. For Mr. Frederick, that was Mr. Benge, former science teacher at Knox Central. "It was all because of relationships."
One thing that you might not know about Mr. Frederick? He is an avid outdoorsman and loves hunting and fishing.
