Cash Collins gives us an inside look at Central Elementary. He used his reporting skills to interview school principal Mr. Eric Hubbard.

Mr. Hubbard is the Central Elementary principal. He has been at our school for six years. During this time, Mr. Hubbard has had both ups and downs. “Although it has been very challenging, it has also been extremely rewarding,” he said. “In the end, the good times far outweigh the bad times,” he exclaimed. As a student at CES, I feel that he is a great principal that puts the students first. To learn more about Mr. Hubbard and his job, I interviewed him.

My first question was, “How has it been trying to run a school during the coronavirus pandemic? “

“It was challenging trying to run a school with the students and staff at home. However, it was rewarding as well as the staff and parents worked together to make it work,” he replied.

“How do you promote diplomacy with parents and students?” I asked.

“I look at the facts. I investigate and make the best decisions based on the evidence. I follow the student handbook handed out each year fully. I also refer parents and students to the handbook if they have any questions on the situations and punishments given,” he responded.

“What is your main goal for the school?” I asked.

He replied, “ My goal is for every student to learn at their highest potential. I try to teach the students that if they follow the Panther Way they will stay on the right track. Also, I remind them that it is important to be at school and to always put forth their best effort daily.

I asked, “ How can students come to you with problems they are having during school?”

“First, they can talk to their teachers. If the problems are not solved, they may come talk to me about the situation,” he replied.

As you can see, being a principal is not an easy job, but it is very rewarding. Mr. Hubbard is a great principal that takes care of his students and his staff. He expects the best from everyone, but he also sets high expectations for himself as well.
