Student Name

Students had an informational writing assignment on Valentine's Day.

In the 1840s, a woman named Esther A. Howland (an entrepreneur) began her own business selling valentine cards made out of lace, ribbons, and colorful pictures. She is now known as the "Mother of the Valentine". Esther passed away in the year 1904, but I am sure Esther would have wanted to know how we celebrate Valentine's Day today.

Students were asked to write a letter to Esther explaining what Valentine's Day looks like today in homes, school, and businesses. Here are a few of their responses.
