Students will explore various media such as drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking and sculpture. Students will strengthen their observational skills and critical analyzing skills by learning how to draw from observation. Students will also gain exposure to art history and will connect their learnings from social studies into the arts. Students are expected to work collaboratively with peers to build upon real life leadership skills. Students will take home a portfolio at the end of the year of their accomplishments. Competitions students will compete in are: Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show, Scholastic Visual Art and Writing Awards as well as VASE.
The Art Fee allows Ulrich to provide the supplies your student needs to complete his or her projects assigned in class. Ulrich can not supply the students with the supplies needed for projects without the Art fee.
The Klein ISD Art Fee for the 2020-2021 school year is $40.00. The Craft fee is $30.00 for the semester.
The Art fee must be paid to receive supplies. If you choose not to receive supplies through Ulrich you are responsible to supply the materials needed for each assignment yourself. Please contact your students teacher for the supply list.

Art students have had Beginning Art. They bring with them basic skills and knowledge of Art Principles and Elements of Design. Projects will be related to Art History and Current Artists. Projects will be 3D sculpture, in a variety of mediums, such as clay, paper mache’, recycled materials and cardboard. 2D sculpture which will include mixed media, painting (watercolor and acrylic), pen and ink drawing, pencil and colored pencil drawing, printmaking and textiles. Students will be given the opportunity to enter contests, such as Rodeo, Quick Draw, Scholastic, Bayou City, and others.
Students will begin to create a portfolio and a digital portfolio. This will follow them to Advanced and High School Credit.
Students will be expected to be able to apply their knowledge and skills to everyday life, and careers.
Art students will come from Intermediate Art Course, after a review of their digital and visual portfolios. These will be reviewed by an art committee.
Students will have more freedom in deciding what medium to use, they must provide a theme, a story, something that will entice the viewer. They must submit sketches per week, done in class or at home. Their work will be rated on creativity, originality, and use/skill of the medium used, as well as good craftsmanship.
Students will be accepted in the High School Credit Course, after a review of their digital and visual portfolios, by a committee of art teachers including a high school teacher.
They will be sketching daily, creating themes and stories as well as use of multi-mediums.
Students will be expected to further their skills, focusing on creativity, good workmanship, emotional content, reference to social and current affairs. They will be expected to continue their resource searches, and thumbnail sketches for future projects. Students must enter 5 art contests, including Rodeo, Quick Draw, Jr.. V.A.S.E, Capitol, Pearl Fincher and Scholastic.
Crafts class is a semester class. In this course student will create hands on projects like weaving, ceramics and 3-d sculpture. Student can take Craft in their 7th or 8th grade school year.
