At the beginning of the year, students in 8th grade on-level math will start reviewing what they learned in 7th grade on-level. Students will take notes and show their calculation work (which is required) in the notebook. Foldables will be glued in the notebook and referenced often. We use many interactive websites that use a game-like format that personalize learning. We compete in teams and even against the teacher! Students are tested on the material in a variety of ways: paper/online tests, google forms and projects. Teachers pull small groups for struggling students and tutoring is offered three mornings and one afternoon of each week. We are willing accommodate the kids on request as well for 1 to 1 tutoring that better fits their schedule.
Our curriculum will lay the foundation for being successful at Algebra I next year in high school. At Ulrich, teachers share the responsibility of teaching the 8th grade on-level students. We hope to offer them a professional friendship, instruction with meaning; as well as instill a good work ethic in each individual, to help them be successful in everyday life as well as their future that is full of potential. The 8th grade teachers do #WhateverItTakes to have a positive impact on EVERY students’ math education.
