We have a unit every three weeks that we cover essential TEKS for 7th grade English Language Arts: fiction, poetry, informational and argumentative. Classes integrate reading and writing using the "I do, We do, You Do method". A typical week in an ELA classroom would involve mini-lessons and practice, writings and projects, and focusing on personalized learning. Students will work on various writing pieces such as fiction stories, informational essays, narrative nonfiction, and quick write pieces throughout the year. Co-teach and sheltered ESL classes will have more teacher scaffolding and modeling. There are also opportunities for students to explore the maker spaces and check out books in the Library.
“ELA is a very interesting class. You do projects, research, reading and writing in a bunch of different genres. “ Elexis L.
“ELA is pretty enjoyable, especially if you love to write. It’s pretty fun.” - Carlos G.
“ Because of the 7th grade STAAR Writing test, we basically work on writing in 7th ELA, but we also learn other important skills through reading and grammar.” - Gentry S
