Coding Club
Theiss Elementary
2020-2021
What is Coding Club?
Coding clubs inspire Klein Coders to get excited about computer science and digital making. Coders -- ranging from beginners to advanced coders -- create games, animations, and websites while learning key programming concepts. Students can learn to code in Scratch, HTML/CSS, and Python. Learning to code changes the way learners analyze and solve problems and encourages creative thinking and collaboration.
When is Coding Club?
We meet every Thursday from 3:45-4:45pm beginning October 29th and continuing through April 2021. Coders can meet us on campus in the Theiss library or online via Zoom.
What do we do at Coding Club?
We grow our coding skills! During Coding Club (and on their own time, if they choose), student coders work on personalized coding projects ranging in skill level from beginner to advanced. Coders can grow their skills at their own pace and progress through coding challenges as quickly or as slowly as suits their learning interests and abilities.
Why do we code?
Click the image to find out! In this video coders from Klein in 2019 explain why they code. In 2019, we had over 800 students attend #KleinCodes to show off a year’s worth of coding skills. They shared their Scratch skills in three levels of Quick Challenges, competed with an original coding project in the District Challenge, and also faced off in a very intense Rubik’s Cube Challenge.
