This course is for first year art students (6th grader only) at Strack Intermediate.
Objectives: In this course, through an exploration of a variety of mediums, techniques, artists and art movements, students will cultivate and develop their drawing skills. In the first semester, students will work with black and white mediums; pencil, charcoal, pen and ink building into working with color in the second semester. This structuring of the curriculum enables students to grow and nurture their attention to detail and fine motor skills which builds artistic ability. Tempera paint, clay, Prismacolor pencils, pastels and digital media will be used in class as well. At times students work independently and at other times they are asked to collaborate to share ideas through critique and the cooperative creation of group art.
