Welcome to 8th grade U.S. History! We are excited to have you this school year. Over the duration of this course we will examine the first part of the history of our great country from 1607 to 1877, which spans our early settlements starting with Jamestown and stretches to Reconstruction after the Civil War. We will also take a look at our American government structure, helping students to familiarize themselves with the basic running and functions of our government and their responsibilities as citizens. We look forward to seeing you soon and to a wonderful year!
Klein Prep: What's the difference?
If you are considering taking social studies as a Klein Prep (KP) course in 8th grade, awesome! We would love to have you. However before you sign up, lets go over the key differences between a regular and KP course. In KP our focus is preparing you for rigorous high school history classes, specifically AP courses. What this means is that in our KP courses we are going to focus on building foundational skills. Specifically, we are going to focus primarily on building critical thinking and writing skills. In a KP class you will analyze primary and secondary sources, learn to write thesis statements, and practice essays that you will see in AP classes. Students will also have a writing portion on every test in the form of a short answer question that they will be expected to answer along with the multiple choice section. In this program we are looking for students who are hard working, self motivated, competitive, and excited to learn! If this sounds like you then welcome to KP!
