In 7th grade science, students will primarily focus on life science topics. Students will learn about the way living organisms are organized, including human body systems. Students will also get their first exposure to dissection, and compare a frog’s body structure to our own. Students will also examine the natural world, looking at the environment and how organisms respond to it over time. Student’s will work in partners and groups as well as individually on labs, hands on activities, projects, digital interactives and more. Klein Prep (KP) students should be motivated to learn, have good study skills, be able to work independently and with a variety of groups, be organized, participate in class, and persevere when faced with challenging material. KP classes move faster and go into greater depth than regular level classes, often requiring more work outside of class as well as collaboration with classmates.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to identify how DNA contains information for organisms, and is passed onto offspring. They will also understand the structure of cells, and the general structure of humans. They will examine the Earth, biomes, and Texas ecoregions, as well as how humans impact water quality throughout them.
Outline of Course
Units covered include but are not limited to:
levels of organization in multicellular organisms
human body systems
plant and animal cells, cell organelles and their functions
reproduction, heredity and DNA
photosynthesis
how plants and animals respond to internal and external stimuli
ecology including how energy moves through ecosystems
how organisms inherit traits, and how those traits can change over time in response to their environment
catastrophic events and ecological succession
examining Texas ecoregions and how they are affected by weathering, erosion and deposition
how humans impact water quality
How Earth is able to support life and what accommodations are necessary for human space travel
If you do good in your classes like if you have a 90 or above in science than klein prep is for you. if you like science and get good grades then you should do just fine in kp science.- Kate
You should look forward to, intelligence, great teacher, but also having fun in Science Klein Prep nothing is really hard when you actually listen and stop fooling around.- Aliyah
Hello future 7th Grader. My name is Cameron and I am in KP science and have had a great year so far. the best part is probably my teacher Mrs. Read is fun and she helps you anytime unless its on a test of some sort and you will get put with other students a lot of the time. The hardest thing that we probably do this year is the Genetics unit and I suggest you do take your notes when in that unit because you will probably fail it unless your me who gets 90's and 100's on almost everything. You should look forward to your teachers, they might surprise you and they will all mostly care for your safety and health and look forward to friends you might make because I have made tons of friends this year and I mean tons. When you choose this class I hope you have a wonderful time and be good to the science teachers(Mrs. Read.) Have a fun school year seventh grader- Sincerely, Cameron
