Seventh grade English explores both reading and writing. A variety of literature and informational text will be utilized to examine reading genres. Through close reading, critical writing, class discussions, and collaborative projects, students deepen their ability to analyze, evaluate, and critique text independently. Group discussions and active participation in projects connected to chosen novels will be expected each quarter for a major grade. Students will be encouraged to pick novels and texts based on their interests and curiosities. Reading of these texts will be required outside of class. In writing, the development of narrative and expository essays will be explored through the writing process, journal writing, and purposeful task writing. On level ELA, co-teach, and sheltered ESL classes will have more teacher guidance and modeling.
