6^th Grade Accelerated Math is not for the faint of heart! It is a challenging, exciting, and fast-paced class. The course covers 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade mathematical concepts in one school year. Students who successfully complete the course will enroll in Algebra 1 as 7^th graders. Because the class is extremely fast-paced, only one to two days are spent on a given concept. Unit tests are given at the end of each unit. Quizzes are more frequent than in any other 6^th grade mathematics course. Students will work with graphing calculators when working on 8^th grade level concepts.

Assignments are posted in Schoology, and students will be expected to use a notebook to take notes. Students will be expected to justify work by writing about mathematics.

To be successful in Accelerated Math, students need to be consistent in completing all assignments, come to class prepared and ready for a challenge each day, and be willing to ask questions. Also, due to the fast pacing of the class, daily class attendance is very important to keep up with the course.

Jackson – To be successful in this class you must actually like what you’re doing, pay attention and complete all the work.

Avery – I love the way that we all work together and help each other figure out the math. I also enjoy the teacher who is teaching us in a way that we will understand and have fun.

Natasha – Three requirements for success in this class are hard work, focus, and completion on time. I like being taught using many examples and explanations of why it is solved this way.

Shane – You must ask questions when you need to and work very hard.

Carly – I love how challenging this class is! You must be responsible, practice, and work hard.

Trisha – You must practice your math, listen well during class, and turn in your work on time. I like stories that help us remember our math concepts.

Chirag – I like that we don’t wait around on one topic but start a new one almost every day.

Cohen – Be sure not to fall behind. Complete all of your assignments. I like that this class is challenging and never boring!

Madison – I like that our teacher is willing to work with us when we don’t understand something and help us move forward. She also understands that sometimes it is hard for us.

Erin – I like my classmates, my teacher, and I love to learn math. You must have determination for this class and you must set goals.
