This advanced course, designed for students who have been identified for gifted/talented program services in Humanities (ELA/SS) or all content areas (ELA/SS/M/Sci) and as having high academic potential across content areas, includes instruction based on the goals and students expectations included in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for sixth grade English language arts. This course will offer students a rigorous curriculum, meant to challenge and empower our most advanced learners. They will be exposed to a wide range of demanding texts both in and outside of class, with a focus on classic literature. This course is “Socratic and creative” in nature. It focuses on grammar, vocabulary, writing, poetry and literary analysis. Discussion and discourse will be the norm for this course. This course is designed to meet the needs of gifted/ advanced learners to prepare them for Advanced Placement courses in high school that will allow them to be better prepared for college.
