In the Principles of Hospitality course, students will learn about careers in the hospitality industry, which include, travel and tourism, recreation, amusement, attractions, resorts, restaurants, and food beverage services. Students will also gain an understanding of the restaurant industry, including sanitation and safety, and food service practices. If students choose to continue in the culinary arts pathway, they will learn the fundamentals of cooking and the science of baking. They will begin cooking in the kitchen labs and will start the process of learning food production skills. This class will be very hands on and mirror the practices of a real restaurant food production environment. The beginning of this course is placed on food and kitchen safety, production skills and techniques. Students will earn a Servsafe Food Safety certification.
In Advanced Culinary Arts, the students expand their skills. They will learn the management and leadership practices of the culinary industry. Students are also taught employability skills. In Practicum, students will participate in a practicum learning experience. Students are taught employability skills, including job-specific skills applicable to their training plan, job interview techniques, communication skills, financial and budget activities, human relations, and portfolio development.
In all of my classes, students will be working in a team environment and they will learn the importance of communication and teamwork in the workplace. I try and create a family like atmosphere where all the students have a voice and can always feel free to be themselves.
Practicum in culinary arts is a class of cooking, discipline, and hygiene. I learned a lot of things in this class, I learned how to cook many things that I thought would be hard to cook but in reality, it was easy to make. There are many things that you learn from culinary for example, how to read a recipe, the importance of a good paring knife, the good ingredients that you will always need in the kitchen, how to tell when the oil is hot. I love being in practicum culinary because I learn many things in the kitchen every day and I also love to eat so that is a plus in the class.
Advanced Culinary arts is a very encouraging and fun experience to go through and learn about new things from the culinary world. I remember learning about how to maintain cost control for recipes and learning about the different salads that are prepared with different salad greens. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to have a pleasant experience in learning the fundamentals of cooking or eat the food they cook in class.
Advanced Culinary arts class is by far the greatest class I have ever been in. The reason for that is because in the class you learn how to cook and try all sorts of food that I have never eaten before. Not just that when your cooking in that class you would feel like a professional working in a restaurant. And it not just focuses on cooking but on plate presentation too because a professional chef needs his/her plates to look clean and neat. Finally, the biggest reason why I love this class is because of the people I work with. I have a great teacher and great friends. I always feel honored to cook alongside my teacher and friends because they are my family. Culinary arts class will always be my favorite class forever, it is the best class a kid could ask for.
Culinary Arts - I love this class and on-hand learning. It taught me a lot of stuff about cooking that I did not know, including skills and techniques in the kitchen. This class helped me out a lot now I know a lot of do's and don’ts in the kitchen. If you are looking to learn how to run a restaurant, become a chef, or even just want to learn how to cook this is the best class to take.
Culinary Arts - I really enjoy this class. It is calm, but it isn’t boring. I feel comfortable in class and do not feel too out of place despite my anxiety. I can feel safe in the class without worrying too much and cooking is fun and there is always someone to help you if you do not understand something. The teacher is very nice and makes you feel welcomed and accepted.
Culinary Arts - I have never encountered a more exhilarating class than culinary arts! The opportunity to cook and learn so much about food is unlimited; I have enjoyed every part of this class so far and encourage anyone who ever considers culinary to go ahead and choose this elective. Every holiday, special occasion, or event that comes up, we have the chance to make all the delicious meals for it, and the best part is having fun together. And Chef Rodgers is one of the best teachers I have ever had, her company, guidance, and teaching makes the class complete. Do not hesitate, this class is worth the experience :D
Principles of Hospitality and Tourism is about learning the basics of hospitality. Getting ready for the cooking part and preparing for the business part.
In all of my culinary arts classes, students will be working in a team lab environment and they will learn the importance of communication and teamwork in the workplace. They will continue to use their kitchen and food safety knowledge on a daily basis as they hone their culinary craft.
