Biology

Teacher Voice

Biology is the study of life. In this class we will learn about life on this planet and how all life is interconnected. We will begin learning about biochemistry, the chemicals of life, and work up to ecology, how living things interact. Every student is required to take Biology and the EOC (End of Course) in May.

You will learn to be a critical thinker and use inferencing skills that can be used in many other science courses. Various labs and hands-on activities are incorporated throughout this course.

Students will be given a chance to retake major grades up to an 80. In each unit you will be given various opportunities to do research, perform labs, and complete projects.

Student Voice

“Science is fun”- Samantha

“I really like doing the labs.” James

“I have learned so much about what make something living.”- Journey

“DNA and RNA are so cool!” – Dallas

What happens in class?

Fall Semester: Biomolecules and Enzymes, Prokaryotic & Eukaryotic Cells, Photosynthesis and Cellular Processes, Cellular Respiration, DNA, Cell Cycle, Cell Division, Cancer, Genetics

Spring Semester: Taxonomy, Natural Selection, Ecology, Environmental Systems, Plants, Virus/Bacteria, Human Body Systems

K-prep Biology will help you prepare for advanced science classes that will give you college credit. You will learn to do scientific writing, design labs, and go much more in depth. Students will need to spend 2-3 hours studying outside of class a week, do work at home, and learn to self-direct learning.

Regular Biology will help prepare you to pass the EOC. Students will perform labs, do hands on activities to help you learn the basics of biology. While you will be required to do some work outside of class, most activities will be completed in the class period. You will be prepared for future regular level science classes.
