In English IV, the students will explore a variety of literary texts, ranging from choice novels to poems. This course is the culmination of all the skills learned in English classes up to this point. As such, the students will be applying the skills--reading, writing, listening, speaking--that they have learned at a deeper level than they ever have before.
Our task is to prepare students for life beyond high school regardless of whether they are going to college or straight into the work force. As a result, we focus on skills they will need, such as constructing effective arguments and analysis. We also provide an opportunity to explore other perspectives and cultures throughout various time periods.
In this class, we read a variety of texts. We compose various types of texts, focusing on genre characteristics. We use technology to further our learning. We work towards demonstrating independence as a learner. We discuss ideas and concepts. We greatly value evidence and the explanations of evidence. Our mantra is: "You can't be wrong as long as you can explain yourself."
