AP Seminar

Teacher Voice

AP Seminar takes key themes of global relevance and encourages students to consider an issue from multiple perspectives, identify credible sources, evaluate strengths and weaknesses of arguments, and make logical, evidence based recommendations. Students will develop disciplined and scholarly research skills within a context of interdisciplinary learning and global awareness. They will investigate a variety of topics through various viewpoints of their choice.

Student Voice

"AP Seminar is all parts explorative, provoking, and freedom-filled. In this class, I was able to delve into the intersection of seemingly conflicting topics, such as the relationship between environmental degradation and human trafficking.

AP Seminar is a unique academic outlet for intellectual curiosity, a rarity in the typical high school curriculum. AP Seminar both encouraged me to challenge the status quo, and to be challenged in facing my own biases. As a student, the exposure and guidance I received in this course sparked my passion for nuance, critical thinking, and more meaningful conversations." (Mary Nguyen, c/o 2021)

What happens in class?

Students learn critical thinking and analysis skills. They learn college-level research skills that are used to write scholarly papers that are presented and defended to their class. There is a blend of required group collaboration and independent (self-paced) learning that appeals to many students.
