In AP European history students will explore the events that directly shaped the world we live in today from 1450 to the present at an introductory college level rigor and intensity. AP European offers the opportunity to broaden students' worldview by learning the vibrant and consequential history of a continent across the ocean! In doing so, they will be able to get a depth of knowledge about the world at large that they otherwise would not have that will inform how they understand the events and relationships taking place in the world today. This will develop those valuable but more “unteachable” traits like empathy, openness, and experience that students will carry with them throughout their entire life. AP European History requires students to READ and analyze text, visual sources, and other historical evidence along with writing essays regarding the political and social climates of European history among other historical themes—that will refine and develop critical thinking skills necessary for future success as members of a local and global society. AP European history challenges students like no other course will and though that might seem like a bad thing, it’s actually the best thing for a student’s development.
I would characterize taking an AP course with Mr. Clark as an amazing experience, Mr. Clark is a great teacher that cares about his students and is extremely positive. Mr. Clark presents his content in a wondrous way, he makes you accountable for your own failures and victories. Being an AP class, his expectations are relatively high and expects his students to behave as such. The only downside I see to the class is the amount of work that is left and the fact that there is a lot to remember and study. Overall, the class is great, having a good teacher.
To those who will take/are taking AP History with Mr. Clark, you must be prepared to do more work than you may have initially expected (try not to procrastinate; your work will accumulate very quickly by doing so). This course also asks that you put in a lot of effort as well as purposeful studying, for the AP exams require a higher level of thinking than most other exams (this is a college-level class after all, hence the name "AP" in the title.) By being on top of your notes/classwork and trying your absolute best on your tests, you will be successful. I would encourage students to sign up with Mr. Clark because he is always so welcoming and never ruins anyone's day. The second reason is he provides us with many resources that have to do without content which is very useful in this AP course. Third, he always gives us the help needed, reminds us about upcoming projects, and makes sure we understand what is needed to be done in this course. Overall this course is an encouraged class to take with
Mr. Clark, This is my favorite class this year because of my teacher and because of the small challenges that this course has provided me with. Mr.Clark is a very enthusiastic person, he's always welcoming his students and encouraging them. With this course, you will need to put in a lot of work and effort in order to fully comprehend the topics/lessons. Don't procrastinate or else the work will become overwhelming.
Students are challenged, both collaboratively and individually, to refine and push their academic skills to new levels of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills which leads to success in all content areas. Students will contribute their own ideas and opinions to the exploration of the human experience of the past, and will listen and respond to the ideas of other classmates. Through discovery and reflection into the human experience of the past students gain a more worldly perspective to find purpose and direction in their own life. By the end of the year, students can effectively think critically, read actively, write logically, speak articulately and argue persuasively. Sign up for AP Euro!
