AP Environmental Science

Teacher Voice

Welcome to APES! This course will cover major environmental topics such as acid rain, biodiversity, climate

change, energy, the atmosphere, water, soil, human populations and pollution, and many, many more! The scientific principles and disciplines are an integral part of the course. Because this class is Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental SCIENCE and not Environmental Systems, it will have a significant laboratory and field investigation component. This science practice allows you, as a student, to learn about the environment through first-hand observation.

As an AP science course, this class allows you the opportunity to earn 3 hours of college credit by scoring a 3, 4 or 5 on the exam administered in May. We will work together throughout the year so that you will have the skills and knowledge required to earn credit. You are part of a generation that has the potential to do amazing things! This is one of the most relevant and important classes you will take because it addresses issues you will face throughout your life. You are living in a phenomenal age of technology and enlightenment. I hope that what you learn in APES will inspire you to be the trailblazers, the problem solvers and the advocates for all living things. So, work hard, learn all you can, use what you know and get ready to be the

change that makes a difference for our planet!

Student #1: "Environmental Science was not what I expected. When I first signed up for the class my senior friends, who are now alumni, warned me that there would be a lot of writing. Knowing my history when it came to writing, I was immediately wary and contemplated dropping the class. But I went ahead and stayed in it, and it's a very fun class. There are a lot of activities where we interact with each other, and we end up having fun joking around with each other, which makes the learning environment lighter and easier. My favorite activity we did was the biome project, in which there were groups of four, and each group made their own biome, presenting it in the end. Working in groups was fun for me, as I had fun getting to know my classmates better. In this class, you actually interact with the environment around you, identifying certain species or making your own contraption. Environmental Science is a fun and easy course to take, and you learn how to better the Earth for future generations. And who doesn't want that? Take the course, you won't regret it!"
