AP/DC Chemistry

Teacher Voice

The various levels of chemistry require different levels of academic skills in the areas of math, reading, and prerequisites. The curriculums are also geared towards different career goals and it is important to consider all of these along with your learning style when choosing a chemistry or any other science course.

AP/DC-11th grade/DC-10th grade are designed for students who are college bound in a STEM career and are interested in earning college credit while in high school along with experiencing the rigor of a college level course. There are prerequisite math courses for each of these for which your counselor can advise you. DC college credit is earned by successfully passing the course and is accepted by many Texas colleges but not out of state colleges. There is a small, required fee for DC courses. AP courses require passing a College Board prepared exam of which the fee is paid by Klein ISD. AP credit is accepted nationally and in other countries according to the individual policies of the university. All institutions require a minimum grade on the exam, and some will limit what credit can be applied to.

Challenging, and interactive. Chemistry might seem intimidating but it is a class that's worthwhile and fun. It is an engaging class that involves discovery and experimentation. Without a doubt, I would recommend students to take this course! – Tiffany AP

I enrolled in DC Chemistry because I wanted to challenge myself. I also like how the class is paced and all the material I have to review over to help with my grades. I also like how I can look back at my material from past work I have done. - Azwa DC

I enrolled in DC chemistry because I heard it was good for in-state college credit. I liked the fact that unlike AP there is no deciding test as to whether not we get the credit. And learning Chemistry has been a pretty fun thing to do while in quarantine. – Jericho DC

I enrolled in DC Chemistry because of the college credit. I want to be able to gain any advantage I can while in high school that will further improve my chances in the future. I like DC Chem because of the rigorous learning in it. – Ryan DC
