In English II, students focus on concepts and skills in Language Arts. The curriculum is designed to foster an innate love of reading and writing through multiple genres. Students will practice language skills through discussion, writing, and presentations. Class time provides an opportunity to explore ideas and collaborate with their peers to provide and receive feedback. Students will benefit from ongoing peer and teacher conferences to grow as readers and writers. While this class will prepare students for the end of year state assessment, the goal is to produce scholars who are critical thinkers.
We will conduct activities that enable students to explore the elements of literature and writing by allowing students to read, write, and express themselves daily.
Students will be engaged in various activities, both collaboratively and individually, which will build on student’s prior knowledge to strengthen reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Students will contribute their own ideas and opinions, and will listen and respond to the ideas of other classmates. Students will respond to questions from the text about human nature and explore themes across various genres in literature. By the end of the year, students can effectively communicate and support their opinions about topics that are important to them in the expository writing style.
