Professional Communication/ Career Focus

Teacher Voice

Professional Communications with Career Focus (PCCF) - This is an activity based career development course in which students will develop an understanding of professional communications through exploration of career clusters. Students will explore a variety of career options while learning about the workplace. Discovery is conducted through activities that include interest inventories, formal and informal presentations, resume writing, and job interviewing. Students will exhibit public relations skills, leadership characteristics, knowledge of the global economy, and information technology applications.

PCCF is a high school credit class, and includes a semester exam. Student wishing to complete the high school credit should be willing to initiate and pace their own projects, and should be comfortable with self direction. Career Focus uses project based learning, and therefore, students who are interested should be willing to create and present products to show mastery of skills learned in class. Career Focus is technology based as it is a CTE (Career and Technology) course, so basic computer skills are recommended.

PCCF is a great elective where you learn through projects that help you decide your interests and figure out what career areas may be best for you. Since everyone is so different, I learned about a lot of options from all the projects and presentations everyone did. - Isaac Andrade

PCCF was a good choice because I got to find out about different careers and focus on one I thought I would like. I learned how to really research a career and figure out if it would be a good fit for me. I heard about other careers I might never have thought about. I also learned how to find and get a job too. - Dayrin Garcia
