Beginner Art (6th Grade)

Year Long Course

$35.00 Fee

Teacher Voice:

Students will explore various media such as drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking and sculpture. Students will strengthen their observational skills and critical analyzing skills by learning how to draw from observation. Students will also gain exposure to art history and will connect their learnings from social studies into the arts. Students are expected to work collaboratively with peers to build upon real life leadership skills. Students will take home a portfolio at the end of the year of their accomplishments. Competitions students will compete in are: Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show, Scholastic Visual Art and Writing Awards as well as VASE.

Intro to Art (7th & 8th Grades)

Teacher Voice:

Art students that have taken beginning Art may advance to Introduction to Art. Students will increase their skills in Art Production with the ongoing application of the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, Art History and Criticism applying the Feldman Model to their own work, master works and the artwork of their peers. Students will continue to explore 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art: drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.

Intermediate Art (7th & 8th Grades)

Year Long Course

Art students that have taken Introduction to Art may advance to Intermediate to Art. Students will increase their skills in Art Production with the ongoing application of the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, Art History and Criticism applying the Feldman Model to their own work, master works and the artwork of their peers. Students will continue to explore 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art: drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Students will be given the opportunity to enter in upcoming art contests and will be expected to be able to apply their knowledge and skills to everyday life, and careers.

Advanced Art (8th Grade)

Year Long Course

Art students that have taken Intermediate Art will need to pass a portfolio review to proceed to Advanced Art. Students will increase their skills in Art Production with the ongoing application of the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, Art History and Criticism applying the Feldman Model to their own work, master works and the artwork of their peers. Students will continue to explore 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art: drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Students will be given the opportunity to enter in upcoming art contests and will be expected to be able to apply their knowledge and skills to everyday life, and careers.
