We have seven units that we cover in 7th grade English Language Arts: fiction, drama, informational, expository, poetry, literary nonfiction, and informational/persuasive. Classes integrate reading and writing using the readers/writers workshop model. A typical week in an ELA classroom would involve a few days of mini-lessons and practice, followed by a few days of independent leveling up using rubrics. Students will have various writing pieces - essays, scripts, poetry portfolios, and imaginative stories to work on throughout the year. On level ELA, co-teach, and sheltered ESL classes will have more teacher guidance and modeling. Classes also visit the library throughout the year to check our books and explore Maker Spaces.
