AP Biology

What is AP Biology all about?

AP Biology is designed to be the equivalent of two semesters of an introductory college biology course. Because each university has its own biology program, the College Board (the governing body of the Advanced Placement Program) specifies a biology curriculum that is all encompassing, and detailed, in order that universities worldwide may accept it. Consequently, you will get more biology in my class than you might your freshman year in college. My goal is to provide a learning environment that enables you to become excited about biology, while developing a solid understanding and appreciation of its principal concepts. These concepts are grouped into four “Big Ideas” which encompass the core scientific principles, theories and processes governing organisms and biological systems. These big ideas are:

 Evolution

 Cellular Processes: Energy and Communication

 Genetics and Information Transfer

 Interactions
