Kit Sam Girls Staging their World of Dreams
In celebration of our school’s 50th Anniversary, our long-awaited third series of English musical, “Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, was successfully staged last month with joyfulness and admiration. The achievement owes millions of thanks to the concerted efforts made by all the participating parties ---- Principal Lau and her devoted teachers, Director Ralph Cheung and his crew, and most important of all, the angelic girls of Kit Sam.
The musical brings out Catholic values like truth, justice, love, life and family. It was put on stage for four times across two consecutive days in October, leaving behind a lifetime memory for the participants, especially Kit Sam girls. This was a golden opportunity for them to experience the blend of music and performing arts, and to stretch their potential in this area. They could taste something differently in the process of growing up as they were opened up to another learning mode besides classroom learning. They could learn to collaborate with others, gaining maturity and personal growth, while being groomed professionally as actresses in the musical. Those things cannot be simply acquired through reading books or learning in a classroom setting.
When asked, Actress Gloria Chan of F.3 responded excitedly, “I’ve learnt much about music and performing arts. I can build up my confidence as I start to ascertain my singing ability and stage performance.”
Actress Angel Deng of F.2, panted in thrill after a scene, “It’s such a glamourous experience with many headlights and footlights around me. It’s a transformation for me, from a timid school girl to a confident actress on stage. Performing arts allows us to play different roles. It’s what I really enjoy the most.”
Here are some words from Principal Lau, “The journey to this victory is ‘no rose with thorns’. The fifth wave of COVID-19 disrupted our schedule and rehearsals of the musical. Some training and rehearsals had to be changed to a Zoom mode. Fortunately, with the unquenchable passion of all the participants, we’d overcome obstacles after obstacles, fighting all the way to this great success.”
School Supervisor, Sister Poon exclaimed, “I notice ‘Joseph’ has got some bruises around her knees. Surely, the musical has been made possible with students’ sweat, tears and pain. Everything that happened tonight will be well remembered in my heart.” She added jokingly, “Director, do create a role for me in the next series….”
Since 2020, staging a musical has become a yearly school event as it has been much welcomed by Kit Sam girls. They are so much fascinated by making a difference in their campus life. Musicals have become part of school culture and are going to be carried on by Kit Sam girls. Now, everyone at school is eagerly looking forward to the next English musical ahead.
