Welcome to all Junior Students and parents! I am looking forward to an exciting year investigating Honors Modern World History. I challenge each of you to do better this year than any previous!! Remember everything you do is part of your permanent record. If a college or employer in the future wants to hire you they may do a background check of your eleventh grade year. Attendance, grades and overall behavior will be what they check. Right now starts your pathway to success!! Do not wait until tomorrow, it may be too late!!!
This course strives to inform students about modern world history and for the student to develop an understanding of geographic, historic, social, political, and economic aspects of various parts of the world. The course is broken down into eras and throughout the year we will cover the following: industrialization, imperialism, nationalism, World War I, between the great wars, World War II, the Cold War, September 11, post-September 11 and Current events/issues.
Students are expected to follow all the rules outlined in the student handbook as well as the following expectations:
Promptness
All students are expected to be in the classroom and seated when the late bell rings. The only exception will be a signed, dated pass from and administrator or another teacher.
Students are expected to have their computer, pencil/pen, notebook, and an agenda unless otherwise directed by me.
Assignments (both at home and in class), tests, and projects will be given a point value. You need to get as many points as possible each nine weeks.
Homework is due the on the due date. If you are absent it is your responsibility to make up or turn in any work. Ask another student, see me, the bottom line is found out what you missed! >>>IF YOU TURN IN AN ASSIGNMENT LATE YOU WILL RECEIVE HALF CREDIT FOR IT!! <<<
Homework is for your benefit. Many test questions will come from these assignments, so you are only hurting yourself by choosing not to do the assignment.
Respect others (including me) and you will discover that in return they will respect you. Remember you are here to learn, not to put on a show!
NO CELL PHONES during class instruction time. The purpose of this cell phone at school policy is to form a work environment that is productive and free of distractions. All students must operate under this policy. It is the my expectation that all cell phones will be off or on silent during class instuction time.
Earbuds or headphones to listen to music and phone conversations are popular but also inhibit a person's ability to hear. For educational and safety reasons students cannot cover or plug earbuds into one, or both ears during class time unless allowed by the teacher.
DO NOT work on assignments from this class or any other class during instruction time.
KEEP YOUR HEAD OFF YOUR DESK during instruction time.
Also, keep the floor around you clean and do not deface the desks, bulletin boards, or the walls.
YOU WILL NOT BE EXCUSED TO GO ANYWHERE IF YOUR ON YOUR PHONE, HAVE EARBUD(S) IN, HEAD DOWN, OR WORKING ON OTHER ASSIGNMENTS DURING INSTRUTCTIONAL TIME.
Students are expected to participate in class! I know this cannot happen every day, but each student should be ready to participate!
Failure to do these and your chances of success will be slim. I want you to succeed, but remember all students are held accountable for all of their behavior all of the time. Each action has a consequence, sometimes you will like it, and other times you will not. Let’s make good choices!
