Grading Scale:
50% Major Grades (At least 4 of these)
50% Daily Work (At least 12 of these)
Course Outline:
In ELA III, students expand their skills in writing and reading through an integrated study of composition, including grammar and mechanics, and literature. Students will read from a variety of genres to become more analytical readers and thinkers. They will analyze both visual interpretations and literature. They will study vocabulary and grammar and practice writing literary and expository essays as well as writing short answer responses to appropriate passages.
Bell Ringers:
All students will be required to complete a bell ringer/warmup at the beginning of class each day. These will be posted in Brightspace or on the board and will be graded each Friday. If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to complete the task on their own.
Late & Make Up Work:
Attendance is important to success in school. If a student is absent, missed work will be in the “Make Up Work” drawer in my classroom. Assignments will be posted in Brightspace so students know what happens in class each day.
Late Work: For work that is turned in late, there will be 10 points off for each day it is late for 3 days and anything after the fourth day will be marked a 50. If you make below a 70 on a test grade, you will have five days to coordinate with me to arrange a makeup for a higher retest score.
Excused Absences: One day will be given for each day that you missed after the original due date. Extended absences will be handled on a case by case basis. Best Practice is to always communicate with me! I will work with anyone who gives me effort!
Brightspace:
Brightspace will be used for announcements, assignments, reading passages, and a variety of other things. It is primarily there for your benefit, please check there before asking. “What did I miss?”
Classroom Technology:
Per KISD, technology is to be used in the classroom at the direction of the teacher.
Cell Phones: Will not be allowed out of backpacks for any reason.
Chromebooks: Only school issued Chromebooks will be allowed. Students need to come to class with a charged Chromebook each day. I do not have enough outlets in my room for students to plug in each day. Students are to use good judgment when on a device and can lose privileges if behavior is not appropriate.
Academic Honesty:
All assignments must represent the student's own, ORIGINAL work. A student may discuss assignments with other students to gain a better understanding of the problem/question; however, copying projects or assignments, whole or in part, from ANY source, is considered plagiarism and will result in a grade of a 0 for that assignment. The student who copied and the student who supplied the information will both be penalized. These grades will not be open for make-up. I WILL ENFORCE THIS STRICTLY!
Tardies:
We will follow the KHS tardy policy. Every tardy will be marked in Skyward. After the 4th tardy you will be given an office referral. Each tardy after the 4th one will also be given an office referral. This will start over each 9 weeks.
