SCIENCE CLASS EXPECTATIONS
I will lead a respectful and disciplined classroom. To achieve this, I have established a few simple policies. As a student, it is your responsibility to comply with these expectations. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to enforce these expectations so we will have a successful year. If you decide not to comply, there will be reasonable consequences.
A positive attitude is the key to success!
Expectations
#1—Choose your attitude
#2—Communicate, collaborate, cooperate, and respect EVERYONE
#3—Have a sharpened pencil each day
#4—Be ready to start class when the bell rings NO TARDIES
#5—Play appropriately when given the opportunity
#6—Check board for supplies and daily agenda
#7- Place backpacks in backpack zone
Choosing NOT to follow the expectations I have for our science class, will be:
1st incident---verbal warning/redirection
2nd incident---student/teacher conference and/ or conference on the
phone with a parent or guardian
3rd incident---principal referral
**ANY SEVERE DISRUPTION will be sent to our assistant principal, Ms. Peterson, IMMEDIATELY!**
Absences
An email, instead of a hand-written note, can be sent to kaudas@kisd.org about absences. If you have a doctor’s note, turn it in to the front office.
Missing Work/Make-Up Work
If a student is absent from class he or she is responsible for the assignments/homework that was missed. A student must see me regarding make up work whether the absence is excused or unexcused. I have absent/missing work drawers by the pencil sharpener. Science lessons are posted daily into Google Classroom. If you have access at home through computer, phone, or tablet you can find daily assignments. If you do not have access and will be absent for extended periods of time, packets are available by parent request and picked up in the front office.
Grades
A minimum of 12 daily grades and 4 test grades will be taken for each nine weeks. Daily grades = 50% and Test grades = 50%.
If work is not turned in when designated, points will be taken off of the grade.
Students making less than 70 on tests may retest and receive the higher of the 2 grades, but not exceeding a grade higher than a 70. This is done at THE STUDENT’S request.
Students will not redo daily work papers of 70 or less for a higher grade. After the 5th day, a zero will be assigned. Students can come in for tutorials to get additional help.
Bellringer
Every day will begin with a bellringer located on the board . The bellringer should be started before the bell rings if possible, AND after you have gone to the bathroom. Your bellringer is not an option; it is required. A daily grade will be taken for bell ringers.
Tardies
A student is tardy if he or she is without a pass after the bell. A student is late if he arrives with a pass after the bell and will not be counted tardy. Tardy and late students need to come in quietly and are not to disrupt the class. Grace period will be given to students for the first few days of school. ALL TARDIES will be marked in Skyward.
1st tardy-Warning
2nd tardy-Contact parents by phone or email
3rd tardy-Contact parents by phone or email
4th tardy and any after that-An administrator will assign AFTER SCHOOL detention or ISS.
Using the Bathroom
Students are to use the restroom between classes. Emergencies do happen. A hall pass with a teacher signature is required for an emergency.
Cell phones and Earbuds
School is a place for learning. Cell phones will be silenced or turned off and kept in a backpack at all times. If you are caught with your phone out or earbuds in ears, they will be taken up and turned in to the KMS Office ($15 fine for each item paid and picked up by the PARENT/GUARDIAN.)
Your phone is not to be used for reading a book. Please have a book with you.
Student IDs and School-issued Lanyards
Students are required to wear their ID on the school-issued lanyard at all times. If a student has a temporary ID, it must be worn on their upper body.
Backpack Zone
Students will get all supplies needed for classes out of their backpack, then place their backpack in the backpack zone. This helps make transitioning around the classroom much easier.
After School Detention
There are consequences for NOT following school-wide expectations, as well as NOT following classroom expectations. Students can be assigned to after school detention. Parents are required to pick their child up when they have after school detention.
Following all of these procedures will result in us having a GREAT year of learning!
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year so he/she will be a successful student at KMS. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns. My email is cpetty@kisd.org and my conference time is daily from 9:33 - 10:23.
