Mental Health & Wellbeing

Mental Wellbeing

At Outwood Primary Academies, we are committed to putting children first, raising standards and transforming lives.

In 2019, Outwood Grange Academies Trust launched its Mental Wellbeing Strategy and as part of the Outwood Family, we aim to create a supportive environment where the children feel happy and able to flourish and this underpins everything that we do.

As part of our drive to support the mental wellbeing of our children, the Outwood Mental Wellbeing website provides a comprehensive range of services available to them and their parents.

Ten keys to happier living

Assemblies form an important part of our school day and a way to promote mental health and wellbeing. One example is The Great Dream.

Everyone's path to happiness is different. Based on the latest research, the company Action For Happiness have identified 10 Keys to Happier Living that consistently tend to make life happier and more fulfilling. Together they spell "GREAT DREAM".

The first five keys (GREAT) are about how we interact with the outside world in our daily activities.

The second five keys (DREAM) come from inside us and depend on our attitude to life.

Time To....

The academy’s curriculum extends far beyond the academic requirements of the national curriculum; there is strong, well-planned provision for children’s MHWB.

Mental Health and wellbeing awareness is embedded into many aspects of the curriculum. ‘Time to’ sessions are an allocated time within the time table where pupils have time to ‘reflect, connect and explore’.

Time to sessions are where our PHSE curriculum is taught. Mental health and wellbeing is embedded here. Pupils discuss many different issues, how they are feeling about these issues and how these can be resolved. Different views are celebrated, discussed and debated. Time to is a crucial time in our time table to discuss and support all children with their wellbeing.
