In order to manage the Microsoft devices, King’s School implemented a Mobile Device Management System called Intune.
Intune is a ‘cloud-based’ program which allows us to effectively manage Microsoft devices and control the access and settings of the devices being used in our school. It also keeps devices up-to-date and gets students the learning resources they need.
Intune provides us with a range of features including, but not limited to:
access the school Wi-Fi network and have school email automatically set up and configured
access the school’s learning applications and websites
self-manage their device
Your child's device needs to be enrolled into Intune which will then provide a way for our IT team to monitor and control the device. The restrictions are applied 24/7 until the device is removed from the system.
Intune is currently used in a large number of Schools.
This tool gives our teachers and IT staff the ability to ensure students and teachers have the apps they need, while safeguarding students from distractions and ensuring their privacy. For example, Intune allows us to disallow access to certain apps or webpages that are primarily used for gaming or streaming services.
No. Intune do not collect or store any personal information. After installing Intune on your child’s device, your school can only see information that is relevant to school. The school cannot:
see your child’s personal information.
see what your child is doing on their device outside of school.
see or locate where your child’s device is.
Unfortunately, we are unable to suspend Intune restrictions once applied. They can only be removed when the device is unenrolled which will take place once your child has left King's school.
When your child leaves the school, the device will be released from the system and Intune will no longer work on your device.
If you purchased your child's device privately, it should have been handed into the school for enrolment. If this was not done, your child's device will not be supervised or restricted by the school, it will also mean that your child's device will not have the necessary apps required by teachers for lessons.
If you do not think your child's device is enrolled, please prepare the device (see below) and hand into the school for enrollment.
New Surface purchased via Easy4U
No preparation required. Your child's device will be automatically enrolled.
New privately purchased Surface
No preparation required. Please do not set up the device.
Recycled Surface
If you are reusing a siblings Surface whose device is already enrolled with the school, you do not need to follow the steps below. Please hand the device into the school, and complete the device receipt form with your child's details (the student who will now use the device).
If you are repurposing an old Surface that hasn't been previously enrolled please ensure you do the following before handing the device into the school:
Back up your files (for more information about backing up your files in Windows please see here)*
Ensure device is fully charged
*Please note that the Surface will be wiped and reset to factory setting during enrolment. Although a full backup can be taken only the backed up files can restored onto the enrolled device. User preferences, software and applications cannot be restored from backup onto the enrolled device.
Once prepared
Complete a Device Receipt Form
Hand the device into the school for enrolment
We will be in touch regarding collection
Depending on the time of year, you may be invited to a device distribution day (start of academic year) or the device will be handed to your child at school.
Device enrolment may take up to a week during busy periods i.e. the start of term.
If enrolment takes place during term time a loan device will be provided for your child to use.
