Friday - We will start the Civil War Unit - Unit 6. I will give the students the WHO and WHEN sheets (In Google Classroom) to help organize all the material from this unit. We will then read Lesson 1 in Unit 6 and the students will complete the WHO and WHEN sheets with me so they know how to do them the rest of the Unit. This will not be due until the end of the Unit and is worth 65 points.
Monday - Students will put the 10 amendments in order from most important to them to least important. Then, they will create 3 new amendments that they feel will benefit America. They will write 3 sentences for each to describe the new amendments. Afterward, they will read pages 213-215.
Tuesday - We will watch the 25-minute movie on The War of 1812. Then they will read pages 217-220 on the war. No assignment.

Monday - I will introduce the Unit 4 summary assignment. Tuesday - We will read Unit 3, Lesson 2 together about the Middle Colonies and the students will complete the accompanying worksheet about Lessons 1+2 to gauge their comprehension and understanding. This will be due tomorrow.
Wednesday - The students will read Unit 3, Lesson 3 in class about the Southern Colonies. Then they will complete the assignment located in Google Classroom that requires them to choose one of the regions, New England, Middle, Southern colonies, to live in and write a 200-word story about the daily life there. This should be historically accurate, but they have the freedom to write it however they want. This is due tomorrow.
Thursday - In preparation for the next lesson that describes frontier life, we will read Jack London's, To Build a Fire" in class today. With 15 minutes left, we will watch the animated version of the story in class.

Tuesday - At the start of class, I will introduce the Famous Explorers Assignment and share a copy of the Google Doc with everyone. I will show them the Marco Polo example and we will do the next explorer together as well so they know exactly what is expected of them. Next, the students will read Lesson 2 (Pages 61-65) and fill in the Christopher Columbus information on the assignment. This assignment is due at the end of the Unit. However, the students should be working on it as we go so they do not have a huge amount of work to do before it is due.
Wednesday - We will Read Lesson 3 (Pages 67-71) together in class. The students will fill in the information in their Google Docs afterward.
Thursday - The students will read, individually, Lesson 4 (Pages 73-77) and complete the Google Doc from the information they read. They should be able to complete everyone listed through "Yanga" at this point.

Monday - Open your book to page 169. There you will find a Resource Distribution Map. On this map you will see the area of Mali in Western Africa. You will also see the resources that the people of that region produced like: Cattle, Copper, Gold, Ivory, Rice, and Salt. Additionally, you will see where in Western Africa these resources were produced or found.
Your assignment is to pick an area (it can be a state, country, continent, town, group of states, etc.), create a map, and label that area's resources on the map. You can choose any area that you want. You must research the products that that area produces, the natural resources found there, and/or any goods or services that the region is known for and include them on the map. The map must also be colored, labeled, contain a key for identification, and be done neatly. You can do this on a blank piece of paper and send me a picture when you are finished.

The shape of the mound should be representative of themselves or their personality. They also need to draw ten (10) items that they would bury in their mound with them that are important. For example, if a students really likes basketball, then they would draw a basketball to put in the mound. Due Tomorrow at the start of class.
Wednesday - We will start the Olmec Heads Video today. It is a very interesting documentary about how the Olmec people built and moved these enormous heads. We will finish it tomorrow. -No assignment except to watch the first 25 minutes of the video.

Directions: You will write your own short skit (comedy or tragedy) or you can write your own epic (long poem). Your skit should include multiple characters and at least 2 scenes and/or your epic should be 200 words. Suggested topics include: Phoenician Culture, Greek Gods, Persian War, Peloponnesian War, Plague, Alexander the Great. Other topics may be possible, if you have one, ask Mr. Gehrke if it's OK to use.
You will have Monday and Tuesday to plan and write a script for your skit and/or write your epic. Skits will NOT be performed, you just have this as an alternative to writing the epic.

The students will go outside with binoculars and observe the migrating birds across the road near the sloughs. They will tally each bird they can identify and we will add them to the Ebird.org registry. Virtual kids can go outside too and do the same. This will provide the students will structured outside time while collecting scientific data that's useful to scientists worldwide.
Tuesday - The students will Read Lesson 4, Chapter 2 in class. Then they will take notes on lessons 1-4. The next test will be open NOTE, not open BOOK. They will be able to use these notes on the test.
Wednesday - The students will create 12 test questions for Chapter 2. They will make a T/F, Multiple Choice, and a Fill in the Blank for each lesson. This will serve as a type of review for the students. -This is due tomorrow at the start of the class.
Thursday - We will go through the Review in the book, question by question, to ensure understanding. The review starts on page 78 and goes to page 81. -Test tomorrow.
Friday - Chapter 2 Open Note Test to evaluate the student's understanding and comprehension of Chapter 2.

The students will take the Chapter 2 Open Note Test test to assess their comprehension on the Chapter 2 Material.
Tuesday - We will read Chapter 3, Lesson 1 together in class.
Wednesday - We will watch the BrainPop video to introduce Lesson 2
The students will read Chapter 3, Lesson 2 in class on their own. They will start the Lessons 1+2 assignment located in our Google Classroom which is due Friday!
Thursday - We will watch a Rocks and Minerals video to start the class that will reinforce the material from lessons 1+2 to start class. Whatever time is left, we the students can use to work on the assignment due tomorrow from Tuesday.
Friday - The students will Read Chapter 3, Lesson 3 in class and then will define the 14 vocabulary words from Chapter 3, Lessons 1-3 to ensure their understanding of these key terms. This assignment is located in GC and is due Monday.
Monday - The students will create a Travel Brochure with an Egyptian theme. The description and grading rubric is found in Google Classroom. Due Wednesday.
Tuesday - The students will have a work day to complete and demonstrate their knowledge on Egypt through their brochure. Due tomorrow.
Wednesday - We will read pages 52-63 (India) together in class today to introduce the new material on a new region/culture.
Thursday - The students will create a crossword puzzle with 15 items from the Egypt and India lessons in class today and tomorrow. This will reinforce some of the key terms from those lessons and is a fun way to do it. Due Monday.
Friday - The students will have a word day on the crossword puzzle. Due Monday.

The Students will read Lesson 3 on their own and complete the short (12-question) comprehension assignment that goes along with the material. The assignment is located in Google Classroom and should be submitted via Kami directly to Mr. Gehrke when completed.
Tuesday - We will watch the Motivation Movie Monday in class to start.
Next, we will watch the BrainPop video in Google Classroom. Students need to be logged into the Ebook in order to view the video.
We will read pages 59-64 together in class.
Wednesday - The students will demonstrate their comprehension of lessons 2+3 by completing a comprehension worksheet located in Google Classroom. They may use their books and should submit their answers vie Kami directly to Mr. Gehrke.
Thursday - The students will be writing a 200-word story to demonstrate their creativity while also using 5 vocabulary words found in Chapter 2. The students can be creative and fictional, but they must remain kind and appropriate. This is due tomorrow and is located in a Google Form in the Google Classroom.
Friday - We will go through the Chapter 2 review together in class found on pages 70-73. No assignment.
Tuesday - The students will demonstrate their knowledge of the material we covered Friday by completing the Lesson 4 Content Worksheet found in Google Classroom. This can be completed and submitted via Kami directly to Mr. Gehrke. Due tomorrow.
Wednesday - We will read pages 41-45 together in class.
Afterwards, the students will define the 7 vocabulary words AND create 15 hieroglyphics on a sheet of paper. This paper must be turned in to Mrs. Young tomorrow or a picture of the work must be sent via email to Mr. Gehrke. The hieroglyphics should have the word under it stating what each hieroglyphic means.
Thursday - We will read pages 47-51 together in class. Afterwards, the students will have an assignment over the material. They need to pretend that they are explorers and found a new tomb in Egypt. They must DRAW what the inside of the tomb looks like and each item it contained. This is due tomorrow and the kids either need to give it to Mrs. Young or email a picture of it to Mr. Gehrke.
Friday - We will watch a movie on Ancient Egypt and then the rest of the hour the kids can get caught up and organized.

For the first 15 minutes of class we will work on the Dichotomous Key located on page 25 in the book to better understand how to use one and build off of the Launch Lab we did last week. Afterwards, we will read pages 26-30 in the book together.
Tuesday - We will start the Alien Dichotomous Key assignment located in Google Classroom. The students will draw/create 5 aliens with similarities and differences and then create a key to identify each one. This will be due on Thursday.
Wednesday - Work day on Dichotomous Key. Due Thursday at the start of class.
Thursday - The students will work on the Chapter 1 Review located in Google Classroom. This will be used to prepare the students for the Chapter 1 Test tomorrow.
Friday - Chapter 1, OPEN BOOK, test. The students will be assessed on what they've covered so far in class. This will be an Open Book test.

Wednesday - We will watch a short video about the Earth's inner layers as an introduction to Lesson 2.
We will read lesson 2 together in class and begin to take notes on lessons 1+2 together.
Thursday - We will finish taking notes together in class. Next, we will watch the Bill Nye video about the Earth's Crust to help reinforce the concepts we've worked on this week.
Friday - The students will do an assignment in class that covers the material from Chapter 2, lessons 1+2 to assess their understanding of the material we covered this week. -Due Monday.
Monday - The class will read pages 29-33 in the book. Afterwards, they will need to create a 26-letter cuneiform alphabet. Each of our normal letters needs a new symbol to represent it. Once they create their alphabet, they need to write a short message to the class using the cuneiform alphabet they created. This is due tomorrow at the start of class.
Tuesday - The students will create 12, test-worthy questions from lessons 1-3, four questions per lesson. These should be a mix of True/False, multiple choice, and fill in the blank. They students should also create an answer bank for their questions. These are due tomorrow.
Wednesday - The students will have today to study for tomorrow's test. They can re-read lessons 1-3, take notes, etc. Tomorrow they will have a test on lessons 1-3. - No Homework today.
Thursday - Lessons 1-3 Open Note Test to assess their comprehension of the material we've covered in class so far.
Friday - The students will read pages 35-39 in class, on their own today. The rest of the hour is there's to get caught up as there are a lot of missing assignments. They need to work on SS first, Science second, and then other work next. I will also use this time for make-up tests from yesterday. No new assignment.

We will read Chapter 1, Lesson 1 in the textbook in class today individually. The students will fill out the outline in their Google Classroom as they read.

Tuesday - The students will be making a similar animal interaction chart to the one found on page 14 in their textbooks. They need to color and label their chart and use Wisconsin specific animals/plants. There are many examples located in Google Classroom.

Wednesday - The students will be going outside today to collect various leaves found on the trees around school. We will be using these in class tomorrow.
Thursday - We will start class with the Launch Lab found on page 19. We will be using the leaves found yesterday in this lab.
After the lab, the class will read Chapter 1, Lesson 2.
Friday - The Students will complete the Chapter 1, Lesson 2 comprehension Worksheet located in Google Classroom in class today.

Monday - Final work day on the Crossword Puzzles. They need to be finished and ready for someone to solve on Tuesday at the start of class.
Tuesday - We will use the first 15-20 minutes of class to solve another student's crossword puzzle.
Next, the students will do the Review found on pages 14-15 in the book. They need to write in complete sentences for #9-16 and #4-5.

Thursday - We will read pages 21-23 in class together. The students will then need to define the 10 vocabulary words found on those pages and create a parallel timeline like the one found on page 23. I will demonstrate how to do this.

Friday - Students will create a Cave Drawing in class today. They need to include the things they are interested in, that impact their lives, and are a part of Viola/Readstown's culture to represent our area.

Thursday - The class will go outside and will work on the Outdoor Observation Sheet that is found in GC. The objective is to sharpen their observation skills and immerse them in nature.
Friday - We will start class with a short Map Projections video from the eBook, found in GC.
We will read Pages 8-15 together in class using the eBook reader. There will be no other assignment.
Monday - We will go over the syllabus together in class.
Next we will read pages 2-5 together. Once we finish, we will define the 3 vocabulary words and write 2 facts for each of the 6 regions described on those pages.

Afterwards, we will Define each of the 5 vocabulary words AND use each in a complete sentence. I will model what the sentences look like to ensure comprehension.
