The Keys to Literacy Certified Facilitator's Resource Deck offers a comprehensive overview of the resources and tools needed to deliver your Debrief Sessions after completion of Train the Facilitator requirements have been met. This Resource Deck contains TWO versions of materials for Debrief Sessions, as Keys to Literacy completed a revision process in June 2024. The resources/materials below will reflect two options Certified Facilitators will have for debrief sessions based on the materials teachers will be using.
Option 1: To be used for participants being trained using the New Version of the KCW manual (copyright 2023, 3rd ed book). This option of materials are for those facilitators who were trained October 2023 or LATER
Option 2: To be used for participants being trained using the Older Version of the KCW manual. These option of materials are for those facilitators who were trained PRIOR to October 2023

This professional resource accompanies the online course KCW. It is crucial that you become familiar with the content and the numerous classroom examples, reproducibles, and templates in the book to support your colleagues.
The KCW TTF online course plays a vital role in fostering a comprehensive grasp of the KCW TTF content and gaining insight into the participant experience. Before scheduled debrief sessions, participants must complete this online course, which includes the Response Notebook tasks. It is essential to navigate through the course just as participants would, thereby enhancing your familiarity with the participant experience. We strongly recommend dedicating time to familiarize yourself with the course and fulfill the Response Notebook tasks to ensure authentic engagement during debrief sessions.

Upon successful completion of the Train the Facilitator course, you will become a Certified Facilitator who is licensed to conduct debrief facilitation meetings. Should you transfer to work in a different school district, permission must be granted by Keys to Literacy to transfer the license to the new sponsoring organization.
To become a Keys to Literacy Certified Facilitator, you must successfully complete the Train the Facilitator course requirements consisting of the following:
Complete all online course modules PRIOR to attending the live Train the Facilitator sessions.
Attend and participate in the required TTF professional development sessions conducted by a Keys to Literacy trainer. This training may be delivered using a virtual, live format or onsite at a school/district.
If all online course modules are not completed by the first TTF training date, you may participate in the training, but will not become a Certified Facilitator until the entire online course has been completed.

Unlock comprehensive, explicit, and evidence-based writing instruction with Joan Sedita's groundbreaking book, aligned with IDA’s Structured Literacy approach. The Writing Rope weaves multiple skills into five fundamentals: critical thinking, syntax, text structure, writing craft, and transcription. Crystal-clear guidelines demystify the process, offering teachers the tools for explicit, high-quality writing instruction. With downloadable resources, this planning guide facilitates applying the science of reading to the skill of writing, making it an invaluable resource for professional development.
Having a strong understanding of both the KCW manual and the components of the Writing Rope is crucial. The Writing Rope integrates various skills and strategies into five key fundamentals of a comprehensive writing curriculum: critical thinking, syntax (sentence structure), text structure, writing craft, and transcription (spelling and handwriting). Although the primary target audience for the book is grades 4-8, many of the instructional suggestions can be adapted for younger children and high school students, particularly those who struggle with writing.
Participant engagement is important in adult education and professional development, influencing both students and teachers. Prioritizing engagement can turn ordinary sessions into dynamic learning experiences, benefiting educators and learners alike.
Choose and integrate one or two engagement strategies for your upcoming training session. These strategies aim to actively involve participants in the content and promote sharing. Aligned with adult learning principles, they can be seamlessly incorporated into your PD sessions without adversely affecting pacing.
Analogies are like (whole group activity)
Quote Minus One (bridge activity to introduce a new topic)
That One Thing (quick partner activity)
Tug the Rope (whole group activity)
