Pseudonaja nuchalis
These snakes are often a light orange to very dark brown color. They usually have a dark V shaped mark on the top of their heads and spots trailing down their backside. Avoid being bitten by these snakes as they are highly venomous, causing headaches, nausea, and sometimes organ failure. The venom can also paralyse most smaller animals, like cats and dogs.
Most biomes can be home to these snakes. They spend most time on the ground near moist soil, sometimes climbing smaller trees. They are carnivorous creatures, liking the taste of many amphibians and mammals, like mice.
The Northern Brown Snake can lay between 5-35 eggs at a time.
Young Brown Snakes are much darker in color and are between 5-10 inches.
The Common Garter Snakes can be found in a variety of places, like any wooded areas and around bodies of water like Davis Pond.
If you get any pictures of the Norther Brown Snake at Keuka Park, send them my way and you could see them here!
