After School Programs take place at Kerrisdale Main School
Kerrisdale Annex students are encouraged to attend all after school programs; however, parents/caregivers are responsible for transporting their children from the Annex to the Main School.
Our Board Game Program encourages critical thinking and problem solving with strategy games such as Chess, Mastermind, Clue, Blokus and dozens of others to choose from. This screen-free program develops skills such as critical thinking, math, logic, planning, memory, communication, negotiation and leadership.

Bricks Challenge lessons start with a brief demonstration that is immediately followed by building Young Engineers models. Participants use our building blocks set exclusively made by Young Engineers’ research and development team. Each lesson inspires students to create, build and learn through a fun and entertaining experience.
Brick Challenge is a program where our Young Engineers build and experiment with amusement park rides and robots. In the last lesson, our students choose their favorite model to rebuild and customize.

Students that are participating in Young Engineers’ Galileo Technic program will learn how to problem-solve from a mechanical engineering perspective, using their new math and physics skills.
Students work in groups to enhance their building skills by constructing complex models. Galileo Technic provides an advanced level of thematic study, by implementing mechanical engineering principles through building exciting models. In every lesson, students will build a new machine which they have analyzed all aspects of it operates e.g. the gear ratios.
Students will graduate the Galileo Technic program with new skills in Science, Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Math (STEM).

Beginner class will focus on the basics while the continuing class will focus on playing more repertoire with various articulations. Taught by Charlene Lee, a former Lord Byng and QE Strings Program student. She currently works as a strings teacher at North Vancouver District and is passionate about strings education. Charlene has taught private lessons for over 10 years.

Continuing class: for students with playing basics. Students will focus on playing more repertoire with various articulations.

The DISCOVERY SCIENCE program offers 9 weeks of exciting hands-on science based activities. Watch fascinating demonstrations, join in inquiry-based discussions, participate in individual and group experiments, and make amazing take-homes. STEAM4Kids will inspire the curiosity and imagination of children with fun science activities that will help them understand the science all around them. Some of the topics that will be covered are below:
CELLS: Explore the cell anatomy and the function of the parts of the cell. Study actual cell structures under the microscope.
DINOSAURS: Examine real fossil casts, and explore the differences in the teeth of herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs.
ECOSYSTEM EXPLORATION: Learn about the interconnections that exist between all the living things in ecosystems including human beings.
ENERGY IN MOTION: Learn all about energy and motion. Discover that energy can be stored, some basic laws of motion and how things move. Experiment with ribbon dancers, tube racers, and slinkies.
HUMAN BODY: Learn about the human body! Bones called the skeleton; muscles help people to move, and the heart pumps blood through the body bringing food and oxygen to all parts of the body.
SEEKING OUR SENSES: Explore all five senses. Test your vision with optical illusions, experiment with your hearing, and try your hand at reading Braille.
WATER WORKS: Have fun with water.

Lights Up Musical Theatre after school program gives students the opportunity to sing, dance and act on Wednesdays right after school! Experience the joys and benefits of musical theatre by taking part in our after school program! These classes are a unique introduction to our musical theatre programs led by Lights Up staff. Students will be supervised from dismissal. No need to pick up your child until 5:15 pm!
SPRING SHOW: THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS
Seat belts, everyone! This Spring, we will be putting on a musical performance of “Magic School Bus”, created for our afterschool students! Inspired by the series of the same name, students will sing, dance, and act on a field trip through space with everyone’s favourite teacher, Ms. Frizzle!

Shaolin Kung fu has a long history of m ore than 1500 years and a wide variety of types which represents one of the highest levels of Chinese traditional martial arts.
