Stykz uses stop motion animation to tell a story. Stop motion is an animated-film making technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individual frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion when the series of frames is played back as a fast sequence. Through the adjustment of nodes, the figure appears to move when frames are played in sequence.
- Your animation should have a story line...what is happening is as important as the animation...the story will be told completely with actions not with words. The viewer should understand the storyline and what is happening by watching the characters.
- Make transitions smooth so that the stick figure looks as if it is in actual motion...this means lots of frames
- Animation should be 30 seconds or longer...this could mean hundreds of frames
- Need to have at least two stick figures...they need to interact with each other
- Background- adjust the color (not required) or add details
- Add color to the people, clothes, hair, etc (not required)
- You can create additional items for them to interact with or to include in the scene
- Must be school appropriate (no fighting, hitting, kicking, no weapons)
Example ideas:
- Two kids having a snowball fight
- two kids playing basketball
- two art students making a sculpture
- two kids building a snowman
- baseball game-pitcher throws the ball, batter hits a home run
- Two kids on a teeter-totter
- girls performing a cheer routine
- other ideas- be creative
Make some cool animations! Hint: the “frames per second” can speed up or slow down your animation.
