Membership Requirements
UNDERGRADUATES must be currently enrolled in a foreign language program here at Kent State University, have completed at least one course in a foreign language at the third-year level or its equivalent, have completed 45 semester hours or its equivalent, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.3.
GRADUATE STUDENTS must be enrolled in a graduate program in a foreign language here at Kent State University, have attained a high degree of competence in at least one foreign language, have completed 12 semester hours of graduate work or equivalent, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.5.

Step 1 - Application
If you meet the requirements outlined above, complete the brief application form by March 1, 2025.
Applications will be screened shortly after the deadline. Those who are found eligible will receive an invitation to join.
Step 2 - Registration
To accept the invitation to join Phi Sigma Iota, you will pay a one-time membership fee as part of your registration.
$45.00 for the initiation packet (a calligraphed certificate suitable for framing, a wallet-sized membership card, and a golden Phi Sigma Iota pin).
Or $60.00 for the initiation packet plus graduation cords.
Step 3 - INITIAtion
The initiation will take place during the Departmental Honors Ceremony in April. Your friends and family are cordially invited to join in this joyous occasion.
After the initiation
The mission of Phi Sigma Iota - in addition to recognizing academic achievement - is to promote friendship and enthusiasm among its members.
Therefore, consider becoming an active member and/or holding a position on the chapter's executive board (a great way to gain leadership experience) or to participate in chapter activities. The time commitment will be very reasonable.
