Science, Grade 7 is a course that is interdisciplinary in nature that focuses on life science with an integration of chemistry, physics and earth science. The concepts include scientific investigations and reasoning; matter and energy in a living system; force, motion, and energy observed in a living system; and environmental interactions.
Science Honors, Grade 7 covers the Science, Grade 7 curriculum while further developing skills, in-depth discussions, and more comprehensive lab work. Topics such as osmosis, cellular transportation, DNA structure, and additional environmental interactions are covered. This course will prepare students for a deeper understanding of Biological systems. Concurrent enrollment in Accelerated Math 7 is recommended.

Students will study the history of Texas from early times to the present. Students examine the key individuals, events and issues of Texas history, including Natural Texas and its People; Age of Contact; Spanish Colonial; Mexican National; Revolution and Republic; Early Statehood; Texas in the Civil War and Reconstruction; Cotton, Cattle, and Railroads; Age of Oil; Texas in the Great Depression and World War II; Civil Rights and Conservatism; and Contemporary Texas eras. Students will also study the structure and functions of municipal, county, and state governments, explaining the influence of the U.S. Constitution on the Texas Constitution, and examine the rights and responsibilities of Texas citizens. A collection of primary and secondary sources will be used to examine the rich and diverse cultural background of Texas and its people.

Includes the basic understanding of the Social Studies, Grade 7 curriculum with added rigor, depth, global connections, and expectations of sophistication in student work. Please note that there is a strong expectation that all of the students in an Honors social studies program are preparing for Dual Credit or Advanced Placement in one or more of the following: World History, U.S. History, Government, Economics, Human Geography, and European History.
