Since the industrial revolution society has focused on efficiency, growth and productivity. While this has helped improve life for most people, we have created new complex problems such as climate change, societal inequity and emerging public health issues. Although these problems require a new approach, we continue to try to solve them with the approaches that caused them.
How can we understand and effectively intervene in interconnected complex adaptive systems, make them flourish and increase their robustness?
The Internet has increased economic and social complexity while reducing costs and friction. This provides us with new tools and opportunities to understand, design and intervene in systems.
I draw on my experience working in organizations and communities to describe the post-Internet principles and methods that we can apply to tackle these problems: decentralization, a complex ecosystem approach to understanding and communication, and a culture-centered community management model.
