Welcome to 7th Grade Social Studies!

About Me

I grew up in Bow, New Hampshire and after graduating high school I moved to Alliance, Ohio to begin college  and continue my competitive swimming career. After college, I moved to Columbus, Ohio and have been living there for the last 10 years! In January of 2021 my husband and I welcomed our first Son and soon decided that it was time to return to New Hampshire! We are so excited for our son to grow up with the Mountains, Snow, and Ocean in the summers!

Having a 2 year old keeps me busy, but we love reading, walking our dogs, baking and hiking together in our free time!

Course Description

During social studies this year we will be making historical connections about the decisions of past civilizations and their effect on the development of future societies. Building from ancient civilization knowledge from 6th grade, we will explore future civilizations throughout Europe and discuss how individuals' curiosity and quest for freedom; in addition to the monarchies desire to increase trade and their hunger for political power led to the age of exploration and the beginnings of new nations. This will lead us to studying the birth of our nation and the formation of our government. Throughout the year you will master historical thinking skills, analyze individuals’ roles in society, and study the impact of geography. You will be reading, writing and thinking like a historian by the end of this year!

Competencies and Assessment of Knowledge

Students will use three important competencies to guide them through each unit of study this year. These are essential understandings and skills,  everything that we learn about this year will encompass these three competencies.

For each assignment and assessment, students will be given a rubric and graded based on how skilled they are at the competency being assessed for that assignment. Classwork and homework assignments are considered practice and should be revised until the student has hit the target and adequate competency is demonstrated.
