Gentlemen,
We have obtained an Act of the Legislature, Incorporating a number of the Citizens of this State, who have entered into a Subscription for opening an Inland Navigation between Santee and Cooper Rivers.
The Company have chosen 21 Directors, I have the honor of being President, and am desired to request of you Gentlemen that, should Colonel Senff be arrived at New York, from Europe, as he proposed by his last Letters, that you would inform him, his presence is required in this State with all reasonable haste; as among other matters wherein he would be usefull [sic], we conceive his abilities and the Information he has received in his Travels since he has been in Europe, will render him essentialy [sic] serviceable in this New Work.
I take the. liberty of inclosing to you an Advertisement, for the purpose of obtaining a supply of Negros — New York and the. New England States may perhaps find it their Interest to — contract with us; be pleased to take steps forwards making the same public. I request to hear from you as soon as convenient.

Know all men by these presents that I, Robinson Thomas of the Township of Elizabeth & State of New Jersey for the sum of One hundred & Seventyfive Dollars, in hand Paid, have and do bargain and sell, to Susan Kane [sic] her Executors Administrators and Assigns a Black Woman by the Name of Betty, with a Child about Nine months Old, to have and to hold, to her; to her [sic]; Executors, Administrators, and Assigns forever; of Which said Woman and Child I have put the said Susan Kane [sic] in full possession. and I do warrent and will defend the said Susan Kane [sic] In Peaceable possession of the said Woman and Child, against me, and all persons whatsoever. witness my hand and seal this fourth day of fourth Novem.
