Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore is an Engineering College started in 1984 under the auspices of Ramanandha Adigalar Foundation, a charitable educational trust of Sakthi Group. It is situated in a sprawling campus of 150 acres in the IT corridor of Coimbatore which in many ways was a front runner in the eco system.
The able guidance and patronage of Arutselvar Dr. N. Mahalingam, Founder, Sakthi Group along with the efficient administration of Dr. B. K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, the resourcefulness of Shri. M. Balasubramaniam, Correspondent and the foresightedness of Shri. Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent have elevated the institution to excel both at state and national level in addition to a number of international partnership with elite academic institutions abroad. The institution is well equipped with excellent facilities such as spacious classrooms, seminar halls, well-equipped laboratories, excellent sporting amenities, dedicated high-speed internet connectivity (broadband) and well-qualified faculty. Five Academic Blocks house the different departments. The administrative building, “Dr. Mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan” is an architectural marvel and land mark in Coimbatore.
Currently the college, as an autonomous institution affiliated to the Anna University,offers 13 under-graduate (B.E., B.Tech.) and 14 post-graduate (M.E., M.Tech., MCA, MBA) programmes of study. All the above courses have the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and all the eligible UG programs have also been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). In addition, KCT has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC). 9 of the 15 academic departments have been recognized as research centers permitting research leading to Ph.D. degree by Anna University.

The Department of Aeronautical Engineering with well qualified and experienced team of faculty members with varied specializations in Aeronautical Engineering stream is committed to provide quality education by innovative teaching-learning processes. The activities of the department are governed by various committees such as Board of Studies and Department Advisory Board in which the external expert members are drawn from educational institutions, industries and research centres of repute and the curriculum is periodically reviewed on pace with the global industrial scenario. Introduction of the Choice Based Credit System enables the students to select the courses of his/her choice in various inter disciplinary areas of engineering. The department has state-of-the-art infrastructure and laboratory facilities providing conducive learning environment to the students and research scholars. The ongoing industry consultancy services and research projects motivate students to learn beyond the curriculum and carry out innovative projects. Various Associations and professional bodies are actively involved in promoting co-curricular and extracurricular activities, to hone the leadership qualities of the students. Internship in the leading industries and research centres such as HAL, NAL, ADA, ADE, DRDO etc provide an opportunity to learn the latest developments in the field of Aeronautical Engineering.
The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1984. Our mission is to craft a research hub engaged in modern research in association with industries and other reputed institutions, instruct outcome based education (OBE) to students with up-to-date curriculum and content in harmony with industry requirements and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among students to enable their own ventures. We are equipped with state-of-the-art workshops, laboratories and computing facilities. Several of our graduates are occupy responsible positions in various Industries like L & T, Mahindra, Pricol, TVS, and Bosch and are holding responsible positions in premier educational institutes inside and outside India. The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty members; many of them are with Ph.D. degree. The department has research projects funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Naval Research Board (NRB) to the tune of more than 1 Crore for conducting research in Biomaterials, Composite Materials, Welding and Metal cutting.
Department of Civil Engineering is one of the earliest Engineering Departments started in Kumaraguru College of Technology. The department specializes in seven most sought after domains of Civil Engineering which include Structural Engineering, Environmental and Water Resources, Construction Management, Geotechnology, Transportation, Geoinformatics, and Coastal Engineering. The faculty members have graduated from prestigious institutions such as IIT’s, NIT’s, and Anna University and have constantly been involving themselves in research and consultancy in addition to guiding graduates through innovative teaching learning practices.
The Department of Automobile Engineering was established in the year 2011 with a mission to prepare highly competent Automobile Engineers for global automotive industries through innovative, industry-oriented curriculum, intensive practical training, and industry exposure to the students in the thrust areas (Automotive Design and Automotive Electronics and Automotive service). The Department focuses on offering industry exposure to the students and train them through Industry projects in the specialized stream of their choice. Major areas of research interest are the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technologies, Vehicle Design & Performance optimization and Vehicle Maintenance.
To harness the potential of textile industry in Coimbatore which is often identified with its sobriquet “Manchester of South India”, and to augment the contribution to fashion industry, Kumaraguru College of Technology started the Textile Engineering Department in the year 1995. The department has 13 professionally well qualified and highly experienced faculty members including 6 Doctoral faculty members. It is well-equipped with modern day facilities in its laboratories to provide ample opportunity to the students to explore their penchant for learning and innovation in the very supportive environment of Coimbatore.
‘Trend’, ‘Vogue’, ‘Fashion’, by whatever word you call it, is one word which has people behind it and has a telling effect on the word ‘era’ as far as clothing and grooming is concerned. Understandably, the Department of Fashion Technology was constituted in the year 2002 and is the first in the country to offer B.Tech. Fashion Technology programme, M.Tech. Apparel Technology and Ph.D. programme under Anna University Chennai. The objective of the department is to equip the students with core competencies and skills in Clothing Technology and Fashion and hone them as competent professionals for the Apparel and Fashion Industry.
The Department of Biotechnology is a pioneering department, which harnesses and nurtures specific skill sets that integrates life science and technology, and the curriculum is constantly upgraded to suit the demands of the industry. Faculty members are trained both in reputed institutes and industries periodically in a constantly evolving field of engineering relevant to biotechnology. Currently, the Department of Biotechnology offers B.Tech.(Biotechnology), M.Tech.(Biotechnology) and Ph.D.(Full/Part-time) with a well-structured and balanced curriculum focusing on the major areas viz., Healthcare, Nutrition, Bioprocess Technology and Environmental Biotechnology.
The research forum at the Department of Physics, an Anna University approved Research Centre is an enterprising space for the research-oriented minds to share ideas, gain practical insights and facilitate innovation. The collaborative space is where research opportunities are explored beyond the boundaries of Physical Science and some of the significant areas of research include Crystal Growth of Nonlinear optical single crystals, Nanocomposites for Sensors, Ion beam modification of Materials, Quantum Chemical Calculations, Photonics, Catalysis, Thin film technology, Nano materials, Corrosion, Nano Technology, Materials Science, Solar cells, Laser&photonics, bio optics, Instrumentation metrology and Image Processing.
